Anarchy!
Every poet will tell you inspiration comes form a variety of sources. You should be listening out for snippets of conversation from others, be it in the street or on the bus. You might find some very interesting themes to create a poem from.
You should take these ideas, or even some lines from a badly composed poem that you have abandoned, and play around with them so that they make little sense. You can do this with a wordprocessor, a type writer, pieces of scrap paper, or even in paint. The idea is to create something completely original, even if it does appear nonsensical. Use the all of the page and arrange words in ways that would not usually. It’s time to get revenge on thos teachers who so rigidly enforced the rules of structure and meter!
After this seismic shift, try again to rearrange the words back into an original poem. How does this work for you? Have you arranged combinations, or even created themes you would not have originally thought of? This method is very useful for finding inspiration in your creative writing.
Try to seek a relationship between line length and rhythm. Seek sound patterns that you are perhaps not usually accostumed to.
