Use a Picture
Another great way to find inspiration for writing a poem is to take a picture (any sort will do) and ask yourself some questions about it. Just answer the questions normally before you try and turn the answers into a poem. Here are some good examples of questions:
What time of day is it?
What is the first thing you see in the picture?
Where has it come from?
Why is it there?
What are the surroundings like - what other objects stand out?
What is happening in the picture?
Write a line following from the answer to the last question using the words ‘never’ or ‘always’
Is anything happening just outside of the picture?
What does all this mean?
You can use any sort of picture by any artist - a photograph of landscape, a portrait - even graffiti.
Try to answer these questions to construct a poem.
You can then refine your poem by redrafting
